A new exhibition celebrating 40 years of theatre in London and New York is to open next year.

Bradley Cooper in The Elephant Man and
Dame Helen Mirren in The Audience

Curtain Up! will open at London's Victoria and Albert Museum in February 2016 - and go to the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in Autumn 2016.

Dame Helen Mirren said it would honour the "shared artistic heritage" which binds the two cities. The show also coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Olivier Awards.

Curtain Up! will be designed by Tom Piper, who was behind last year's ceramic poppy art installation at the Tower of London which marked the centenary of World War One.

The Society of London Theatre, which helped organise the show, said it would highlight how the multi-million pound theatre sector had "developed and flourished" in London and New York. Recent British productions that have transferred to New York include The Audience, with Dame Helen Mirren as The Queen, as well Constellations, Skylight and Wolf Hall/Bring Up The Bodies.

Broadway productions currently in the West End include The Book Of Mormon, Once, The Scottsboro Boys and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. It was recently announced that Bradley Cooper will be appearing on the London stage in the Broadway production of The Elephant Man.

The exhibition was announced in New York on Friday by Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who is there as part of a visit to strengthen cultural and business links with the US.

Benedict Cumberbatch confirms Valentine's Day marriage, by Mr. FraM Martins

Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed his marriage to Sophie Hunter. The actor's spokeswoman told Newsbeat the couple got married on Valentine's Day, and added that "it was a magical day". The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony with family and close friends on the Isle of Wight.

Guests at event are said to have included Tom Hiddleston and Cumberbatch's Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman. Sophie Hunter, 36, first met Cumberbatch, 38, when they appeared together in the 2009 film Burlesque Fairytales. They shunned the token celebrity Instagram post to announce their engagement in an eight-line notice in the Times newspaper in November.

The Sherlock star has been shortlisted for an Oscar for his role as mathematician and Second World War codebreaker Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. Last month, he was beaten to the number one top spot of Glamour magazine's world's sexiest man poll by Mr Grey himself Jamie Dornan. Sophie Hunter has appeared in Torchwood and Midsomer Murders in the past.

Cumberbatch previously dated the actress Olivia Poulet and the designer Anna Jones. The announcement that the actor was officially off the market led to a few broken hearts on Twitter. But fans soon moved on, turning attention to the man who came third on the poll - Thor and Avenger actor Tom Hiddleston.
