Another Festival: Dubrovnik Festival
The Old City of Dubrovnik in the south of Croatia – with its Renaissance and baroque squares, gardens, churches and palaces – is an atmospheric backdrop for this yearly festival, established in 1950. Classical music, opera and jazz are all on offer, plus folk-influenced music and theatre, ballet and film.
This year a high point is Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, directed by Jagos Markovic, to be staged in the Renaissance summer residence of the Skocibuha family at Boninovo. This is the festival’s 65th anniversary, and the music festival will be accompanied by various arts events around the city, including an exhibition, Creators of Memory: Photographers and Designers at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, to be displayed in two venues, Sponza Palace and Rector’s Palace.

Anima Mundi
Taking place in its first week in Rio, then moving on to São Paulo on 6 August, Anima Mundi is in its 22nd edition this year. Showing Brazilian and international animated movies, the event has become increasingly popular and influential over the years.
Some of the attractions on offer include Open Studio, Animated Chat and Anima Forum, plus various master-classes. In September the festival then hits the road to visit several other cities in Brazil on the Anima Mundi Circuit.
